Srinagar: A militant was killed when alert troops foiled yet another infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Rajesh Kalia told UNI that troops guarding the LoC noticed militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-administrated Kashmir (PaK) in Machil sector in Kupwara today. However, when challenged and asked to surrender, the infiltrators opened fire, he said, adding that the fire was returned ensuing in an encounter.
He said one militant was killed in the initial exchange of fire. “Additional security forces have been rushed from the nearby camps and the entire forest has been sealed and a search operation launched,” he added.
