FCS&CA Deptt organises awareness prog ‘Consumer Know your Rights’

Jammu |: Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs organized a one day programme on “National Consumer Day” in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) & District Legal Services Authority, here Friday.
The theme of the day was “Consumer Know your Rights.”
The Chief Guest of the occasion was H.A Siddiqui, Sr. Advocate & Former Additional Advocate General High Court Jammu.
The programme was presided over by Shagun Sharma, Joint Director (Adm) FCS&CA Department Jammu and others present were V.S Sambyal, Joint Controller, Legal Meteorology Department; Narinder Kour, Deputy Director (Supplies) FCS&CA Department; Dr. Javed Iqbal Rather, Deputy Director (F&R), FCS&CA; Akhter Hussain, Chief Accounts Officer FCS&CA; Sonia Vaid, Deputy Director (Planning), FCS&CA & Assistant Directors of Jammu District, Scientist D Nisha Bura from Bureau of Indian Standards, Adv. Deepali Arora Sharma & Adv. Mayank Gupta from District Legal Services Authority.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted various aspects of Consumer Rights Act which influences day to day lives of Consumers and reiterated that Consumer Rights reinforce the concept that average person holds all the powers against those in authority and can seek the right they duly deserve.
He said the purpose of the Consumer Rights is to safeguard the Consumer from exploitation against unfair trade practices. Additionally,
Nisha Bura, Scientist D from BIS gave detailed presentation on the subject highlighting the quality/ standards & certification on the products available in the market. The session culminated with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Javed Iqbal Rather, Deputy Director (F&R), FCS&CA Department.
