LMD conducts market checking, imposes Rs 42400 fine on erring traders

Samba: A team of Legal Metrology Department Saturday charged Rs 42400 fine from erring traders during a massive market checking drive.

The team headed by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba,  Ajay Kumar Verma and Inspector Mohsin Khateeb conducted checking of various business establishment from Jatwal to Bari Brahmna on Jammu Pathankote National Highway. The team inspected markets in Raya Morh, Polura, Baderi, Nanke Chack, Ghagwal, Vijaypur, Gurha Slathia, Madoon, Chachwal, Kalwal and adjoining areas.

The team inspected various business establishments and checked their compliance with regard to various provisions of J&K Standard of weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and   packages Commodities rules.

In all, 30 traders were challaned for violation of various provisions including 5 for violation of Packages Commodities rules, 14 for not producing verification certificate at the time of inspection and 11 for non re-verification of Weighing and Measuring instruments on the due date. On admission of the offence by the traders and with the request and assurance of not repeating the same fault in future, the challans were compounded and penalty of Rs 42400 was imposed on the erring traders.
