Udhampur: GHS named after Inspr Kamal Singh

DDC Chairperson, ADGP inaugurate main gate plaque of school

Udhampur: District Administration Udhampur today named Government Model Higher Secondary Boys Udhampur after the name of Shaheed Inspector Kamal Singh Government.

DDC Chairperson, Udhampur Lal Chand, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Mukesh Singh were the chief guests and formally inaugurated the main gate plaques of the school after the name of Martyr amidst the presence of family members of the Martyr .

The function was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Indu Kanwal Chib, DIG Udhampur- Reasi Range Mohd Suleman Chowdhary, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sargun Shukla, President MC, Dr Jogeshwar Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Syed Khan, BDC Chairman, Balwan Singh, Padma Shri Prof.  Shiv Nirmohi, Councillors, family members of the Martyr, civil society, staff members and students of the school.

Principal of the host school, Sunil Sharma presented the welcome address. He informed that Shaheed Kamal Singh obtained his basic education from Government Higher Secondary School Udhampur. He added that he was an alumna of this school and today the institute has been named after him.

After the formal inauguration, the dignitaries visited the martyr gallery and paid floral tributes to Shaheed Inspector Kamal Singh, who had sacrificed his life for the nation.

The DDC Chairperson said that naming schools, institutions and roads after Martyrs is a unique initiative of J&K Government to remember their supreme sacrifices for the nation. He said that such occasions will definitely inspire others to do great and memorable work for the nation.

The ADGP said that J&K Government took the initiative and decided to name prominent government schools, roads and buildings in the name of Martyrs.  He congratulated the Principal, faculty members of the institutions who inculcated the moral values among the students and served the nation. He reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir Police will always remain indebted to his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and for his unparalleled courage.

Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur said “This day is an inspiration for all of us.” She stressed on doing hard work for nation building. “I feel very proud to see this impressive ceremony remembering the supreme sacrifice by the martyrs, while serving the motherland” she added.

At the outset, SSP Udhampur briefed about the martyr Shaheed Inspector Kamal Singh. She added that  the martyr  was a dedicated  and professional  officer and had  opted voluntarily  to serve  in special  operation  group  SOG of JKP in the year 1995 during  the peak of counter insurgency  in Kashmir valley. Subsequently  he was posted in SOG camp  Pattan Babeteng  District Baramulla and on fateful day  of 12.03-2001  few dreaded terrorists  entered  into  the SOG camp with the intention to inflict  heavy damages  to the security forces and fired indiscriminately  upon police  personnel  of the camp  which triggered  an encounter. During the said terrorist’s attack the martyred officer   fought bravely thereby shielding /saving his colleagues and also neutralized one terrorist. The martyred officer received serious bullet injuries while fighting and attained martyrdom in the line of duty. She said that the officer played a crucial role in counter insurgency operations.

During the function, a theme based cultural programme was also presented by the Artists of Information Department and students of the school and local artists of the district which was highly appreciated by the audiences.

Similarly, an impressive function was organised by the School Administration for renaming of Government Higher Secondary School Dehari, Ramnagar as Shaheed Naik Rajeshwar Singh Government Higher Secondary School Dehari.

DDC Councillor, Ramnagar Mool Raj was the chief guest, who formally inaugurated the main gate in presence of SDM Ramnagar and family members of the martyr.
