Though laxity in following covid appropriate behaviour (CAB) amid apprehensions about the possible arrival of a third wave of covid-19 pandemic should not have become the cause for the gradual rise in the no of COVID-19 positive cases and also the no of daily covid deaths in Jammu & Kashmir but unfortunately violation of covid appropriate brhaviour (CAB) in absence of strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols is becoming the cause for unprecedented rise in the daily no of COVID-19 pandemic cases more in Kashmir valley and comparatively less in Jammu division. While authorities in some districts have shown great wisdom in strictly enforcing the covid appropriate behaviour (CAB), the authorities in Srinagar the summer capital and few other districts have shown laxity in enforcing the covid appropriate behaviour (CAB) because of which a surge in the pandemic spread in such districts is worrying for both the government and as well as the people. While wisdom demands no compromise on social distancing norms, use of masks at the crowded places and frequent use of sanitisers both at the markets and as well as the government offices, the people are showing laxity in following the covid-19 protocols at the crowded places particularly markets in the commercial hubs and government offices witnessing huge arrival of private visitors in cities and major towns in both Kashmir valley and as Jammu division day in and day out. Unfortunately the authorities in government offices don’t tend to restrain the private visitors from violating the social distancing norms. As no of positive cases reported daily remains the highest in Srinagar city and comparatively less in other districts of Kashmir valley and Jammu division, a proactive response to the covid appropriate behaviour is the only way to reduce the increasing intensity of the pandemic spread in Jammu and Kashmir .
Instead of penalising the people for violating the covid appropriate behaviour (CAB) it would be better for the authorities both in the schools and as well government offices and crowded markets to make people understand the spirit of discipline at all such public places which are vulnerable to fast spread of the fresh strain of COVID-19 pandemic. Implementing COVID-19 protocols would surely bring down the intensity of the unprecedented surge in the no of positive cases at all the public places across Jammu & Kashmir.
Since the examination for various classes have also commenced recently, the enforcement of covid appropriate behaviour has to be ensured even in the schools where examination centres have been set up by J&K Board of School Education. As managements of private schools force the students to pay other fee they could also force them to pay for masks. Instead of fining students for not using masks they can charge Rs 5/- for a mask from a student for forcing him/her to use the mask. Such a workable procedure would also make students understand the importance and the spirit of discipline.
