Union Comr Agriculture, Horticulture reviews implementation of various CSSs in Kashmir

Srinagar: Union Commissioner for Agriculture and Horticulture, Dr. S.K.Malhotra Monday convened a meeting of Agriculture Department at Lalmandi, here to review the progress made under various centrally sponsored schemes (CSSs) and other flagship programmes under implementation in Kashmir.
During the meeting, the Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal apprised the visiting dignitary of various initiatives that are being executed by the Department in the valley. He also presented a detailed overview of various CSSs and flagship programmes under implementation here.
The Director gave a detailed blueprint of various initiatives and said that the Department has focused on various initiatives including organic vegetable cultivation, mushroom cultivation, introduction of exotic vegetables, bringing more and more area under mainstream agriculture, revival of saffron sector and its introduction to newer areas and marketing platforms, bringing uncovered areas under oilseed cultivation, women and youth empowerment through different agriculture schemes, backyard and urban agriculture etc.
While expressing his views, the Union Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Department and assured every possible support for the progress and development of the agriculture sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Joint Director Agriculture Extension Sheikh Shahid Iqbal; Joint Director Agriculture Marketing, Mohammad Qasim Gani; District Agriculture Officer Pulwama, Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah; Program Officer, Muzaffar Shuja; Chief Technical Officer, Sheikh Farhan and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
