Srinagar: Actors’ Creative Theatre (ACT), on Monday kick started a five days theatre workshop at Srinagar.

The workshop will be held on the topics like Theatre Exercises, Speech and Diction, Scene Improvisation, Performing Skills, Script Reading / Writing and Body Language. Actor and Director from Delhi Tarique Hameed is the Director of Workshop.

Tarique Hameed began his theatrical endeavour in 2004. He is a Theatre Director, actor and a faculty at Shri Ram Centre, New Delhi. He has directed plays like Topi Ki Dastaan, The Wave, Mahabhoj and many others under the banner of Wings Cultural Society which has featured at prominent festivals in India. He has also featured in various Short Films, TV shows and Movies. He is well known for his performance in the TV show ‘India Bolega’ on Anjan TV.

He formed Wings Cultural Society in 2009 dedicated to socially relevant theatre. The group participated in the 8th Theatre Olympic, Lucknow Literature Festival, 15th and 17th Bharat Rang Mahotsav among several others.

Tarique said: “This is my first visit to Kashmir. I feel grateful about coming here and directing a theatre workshop, the best way to visit Kashmir for me.”

He added: “The opportunity to meet people from this part of the world and sharing the rehearsal space will give way to a great experience and learning.”

He further: “For me conducting workshops for these aspiring actors is a job, in which I tell them what I have learnt all these years and in return learn from them. They may not know that I learnt from their expressions, the way they talk, move etc. but I can use it for my character portrayal in my field, Theatre.”

Idrees, one of the participants said: “The first day of the workshop was full of fun, entertainment and seriousness too. We learnt about the exercises to be done before taking up the theatre field. It is one of the rare opportunities to learn about theatre. We will not have learned what we learned today even if you go to NSD or Whistling Woods like institutes. Being a non-theatre person or having no connection with it, I learnt a lot in a single day. I am thankful to ACT, who provided this opportunity in our own city”

Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Chairman & Creative Director of Actors’ Creative Theatre (ACT) said “I am very happy to organise such activities of performing Arts in my own region. It gives aspiring theatre Artists a chance to learn more about this art. I will continue to take such initiatives in future as well. He further said that he will tirelessly work to continue to promote all the forms of Art and Culture in Kashmir. This gives me satisfaction
