Srinagar: Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was taken into custody after he defied house arrest restrictions today.
Meanwhile, restrictions continued on chairman of hardline HC Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who remained under house arrest.
Chairman of Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi (ITeA) Abdul Samad Inquilabi also remained detained in a police station in Tral in Pulwama district for the past about one week.
Mirwaiz, taking to micro blogging site Twitter said that he was arrested by police after he stepped out of his Nigeen house this morning to lead “Nimaz Jinazah” prayers of his maternal uncle.
“As I defied house arrest to lead Jinazah prayers of my maternal uncle& close aide Tariq Ahmed Buch, Arrested & detained at police station !”, he said.
Mirwaiz was put under house arrest for the past about one month and was not allowed to addressing Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid, where no Friday prayers could be offered due to restrictions.
A large number of security forces and state police personnel also remained deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani who is not being allowed to move out.
Mr Inquilabi alleged that he was not being allowed to take medicine in the police station, where he was denied medical facilities.
