Anantnag: An awareness campaign regarding Elderline, 14567, National helpline for senior citizens was Thursday led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anantnag, Gulzar Ahmed here at Anantnag.
Representatives of Aerial Telecom and Samarth Elder care were also present on the occasion.
SDMs, Tehsildars, TSWO and others present were informed regarding the aims of establishing the helpline. It was given out that the helpline is aimed at reaching the senior citizens to disseminate information regarding various govt schemes and programs.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC expressed hope that the helpline will benefit the elderly citizens in the district. He directed officials of district administration to ensure widespread publicity of the helpline and encourage elderly in distress to utilize the service.
The intent of ‘Elder Line’, according to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is to provide all senior citizens, or their well-wishers, with one platform across the country to get information and guidance on problems that they face on a day-to-day basis.
Elderline is a unique platform to provide the elderly with information about doctors, physiotherapists, day care homes and provide guidance in legal dispute cases related to maintenance and welfare. Through this helpline, counseling on physical mental wellbeing, lifestyle issues, loneliness and anxiety related disorders is also being provided.
Senior citizens can call in to seek clarity on pension issues, legal issues and even facilitate rescue of homeless elderly. The helpline has already been launched in 17 states of the country.
