New Delhi: The BCCI has backtracked over the appointments of Zaheer Khan as bowling coach and Rahul Dravid batting consultant for overseas tours which were announced on July 11.
BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on July 11 had appointed Ravi Shastri as the head coach of Indian cricket team while Rahul Dravid as overseas Test batting consultant and Zaheer Khan to head as bowling consultant.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has now backtracked from its earlier decision.
While according to reports Shastri is set to get his own support staff.
CoA head Vinod Rai said that the appointments of Zaheer and Dravid had been put on hold.
It is not an appointment.
The recommendation has been made.
And the CoA has to act on the recommendation.
That recommendation will be acted upon in consultation with the head coach he said.
Meanwhile, the CoA today formed a four member committee which will decide the fate of Dravid and Zaheer.
A four-member committee of BCCI acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and Committee of Administrators member Diana Edulji will take the final call in appointing the support staff of the Indian team and then decide on the contracts that will be handed to the coaches.
The CAC — comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman — had in a strongly worded letter informed the COA that the decision to appoint Dravid and Zaheer was taken after consulting chief coach Shastri.
The Indian team meanwhile will be leaving for Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
But still the role of Dravid and Zaheer is still unclear for the Sri Lanka tour.
