Srinagar: A gunfight broke out in Chanapora area here on Saturday morning, officials said.
They said the firing exchange took place when joint teams of police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the Methan area.“After the initial exchange of fire, there has been a lull,” an official said.
The sources said that it seems that militants may have managed to flee from the area. However, security forces are keeping a vigil in the area.
The encounter at Methan broke hours after a local militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba was killed in a brief gunfight at Natipora area of the city. Police had said a militant had managed to escape from the encounter site at Natipora.
