SAKHI B’pora organises daylong awareness prog on domestic violence

Bandipora: SAKHI– One Stop Centre, Bandipora, Friday organised a daylong awareness programme at One Stop Centre, Bandipora on ‘Women domestic violence and women rights’ in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora and J&K Students Welfare Mission-a social development organization.
A good number of participants from various areas of Bandipora participated in the event.
On the occasion, the audience was informed that the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Govt. India has formulated a Centrally Sponsored One Stop Centre Scheme, popularly known as Sakhi scheme for setting up One Stop Centre to provide support and assistance to women affected by any kind of violence, both in private and public spaces.
Jameela Akhter, CW OSC, in her welcome address highlighted the need to be aware of various women centric laws and regulations while Shahida Bashir highlighted the role of modern mechanism and redressal systems for women, who feel any kind of violence or any kind of such issue.
Speaking on the occasion, the Centre Administrator, SAKHI Bandipora, Ishrat Ayoub informed the participants about the need to break their silence. “One-Stop Centre is a centrally sponsored scheme committed to safeguard women and girls from any kind of violence,” She added.
She said that emergency response and medical assistance are being provided free of cost to women and girls affected by any kind of violence. She urged the women folk to come forward in case of any violence or forced issue.
Expressing her views, Afshana Hassan, Psycho-Social Counselor, stressed women to be aware of safety and violence taking place within their homes and around. Apart from this she informed the women to be aware of women’s rights to safeguard themselves and others.
Meanwhile, Ishrat Akbar, PMA and Shabnam Shaban emphasised the gathering about spreading the word of awareness regarding various laws meant to safeguard a woman at home or at workplace. They highlighted the roles of women to be change makers for themselves and for others.
Pamphlets depicting the scheme details were also distributed among the participants.
A warm vote of thanks to all the participants and gathering was presented by Mehnaza Rasool, who also appreciates District Administration Bandipora for great support and coordination.
