Srinagar, July 14: PDP President and Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today reiterated the commitment and resolve of her Party to work for mitigating the sufferings of people of the State for which she asked the Party functionaries to work with dedication and zeal.

Addressing a meeting of District and Zonal Presidents of the Party here today, Mehbooba Mufti said PDP was formed to strengthen democratic ethos in the State by providing an alternative narrative, thereby giving voice to sentiments of people. Ever since its formation, she said, the Party has been voicing the issues of people, in and out of power. As a result it got the discourse about the State changed and a vast constituency of peace, reconciliation and dialogue was gradually evolved.

Mehbooba Mufti said it was a major achievement that her Government attained almost unanimity of sentiments and emotions of all the sections and regions in the State in the recently implemented GST. “The apprehensions, as expressed by certain quarters, were allayed and the special position of the State was reaffirmed and reassured in the Presidential Order, as the Party has been standing for”, she said.

She said every human heart felt bruised on hearing of the inhuman act of violence against Amarnath yatries few days ago. But, she said, it was reassuring to note that people of the State in one voice, irrespective of difference in ideologies, stood up to condemn the act and declare it against the Kashmiri ethos and culture. This not only failed the designs of the perpetrators of the crime but also gave a befitting reply to those negative elements who were propagating against the people of the State, she added.

The meeting also discussed the programme for the upcoming foundation day of the Party.

Senior party leaders, Muzaffar Hussain Baig; Vice President, Muhammad Sartaj Madni and General Secretary, Nizamuddin Bhat also addressed the meeting.

Ministers, MPs, legislators, District Presidents, Zonal Presidents and other senior leaders of the Party were present in the meeting.
