Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Bandipora and alsorecovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday police said that acting on specific information, a Police party from Police Station Sumbal under the supervision of SDPO Sumbal Surinder Mohan at a checkpoint established at Sumbal Wangipora Bala intercepted a person identified as Sameer Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Hameed Dar resident of Rakh-i-Shilvat Sumbal and upon checking officers recovered 3Kgs of dry bhung leaves from his possession following which he was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case vide FIR No. 121/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sumbal and further investigation into the matter has also been initiated, police in it’s above referred statement further said “during preliminary investigation it surfaced that the recovered drugs were meant to be supplied among the youth of the area to make them drug addicts”.
In the concluding para of it’s above referred statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, stating therein further that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
Police in it’s statement also said “ actions against drug peddlers are taken to reassure the people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace”.
