KU organises day-long seminar on Changing Teaching-Learning Paradigms

Srinagar: Kashmir University’s Department of Education organised a day-long seminar in connection with the Teachers’ Day celebrations.
Dean Academic Affairs Prof Farooq A Masoodi presided over the seminar titled “Paradigm Shift in Teaching-Learning: Challenges and Way Forward”.
In his presidential address, Prof Masoodi said the Teachers’ Day should be celebrated to honour the sacred student-teacher relationship.
“A teacher’s role is to awaken the passion of students and help them to identify themselves in true sense,” he said.
Highlighting the need to achieve the objective of holistic development of students, he emphasised on the inculcation of moral and ethical values among the students.
KU Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, who was a guest of honour on the occasion, said teachers are responsible for shaping the lives of individuals and education acts as a potent agent of social reconstruction.
“We are aligning our teaching-learning processes in light of the objectives enlisted in the new National Education Policy-2020 to keep pace with the changing paradigms in higher education,” Dr Mir said.
In her welcome address, Prof Tasleema Jan, Head Department of Education, highlighted the aims and objectives of the seminar.
“Since the pandemic has affected the teaching- learning processes globally, the need of the hour is to update the knowledge of teachers regarding the latest pedagogical techniques to help them face the upcoming challenges,” she said.
In his keynote address, Prof Showkat Ahmad Shah, Dean School of Education and Behavioural Sciences, said the ICT has changed the scenario of teaching and learning and therefore teachers should be proactive and creative rather than mere disseminators of knowledge.
“The paradigm shift in teaching has now redefined the role of a teacher as the stage-setter for collaborative and cooperative learning designs,” he said.
Dr Manzoor Ahmad Rather and Dr Aamina Parveen, Assistant Professors at the Department of Education, conducted the proceedings of the seminar and presented a formal vote of thanks, respectively.
The inaugural function was followed by a technical session where Professor Mumtaz Begam from Pondicherry University and Professor Ummi Kulsoom from Bangalore University had detailed deliberations on the theme of the seminar.
The technical session was chaired by Professor Mehmood Ahmad Khan and moderated by Dr Mohammad Amin while Professor Mohammed Iqbal Matto presented the concluding remarks at the end.
