Police arrests two extortionists in Kulgam & Bandipora

Srinagar: Police in a series of action in Kulgam and Bandipora arrested two extortionists involved in extorting money from gullible people. Extorted cash and a knife also recovered from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday police said “In Kulgam, Police received a written complaint from one Shabir Ahmad Bhat resident of Bachroo where in he stated that a person namely Mohammad Iqbal Bhat resident of Bachroo extorted money from him in the name of Police department”, adding that “the accused person threatened him that Police will arrest him as he was earlier involved in drug peddling and demanded ₹50,000/- from him to avoid arrest and the complainant paid him ₹20,000/- in advance as he was frightened that he may be arrested by Police for the unknown crime”.
Stating that accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 205/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Kulgam and started investigation into the matter, police in it’s statement further said “ a special investigating team led by SHO PS Kulgam under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kulgam Ghulam Muhamad Bhat swung into action and arrested the accused & also recovered the extorted money from his possession”, adding that “during questioning, the accused confessed about his involvement into the pre-planned crime”, stating therein further that investigation of the case is in progress.
The above referred statement also said “In Bandipora, Police received information that some miscreants impersonating as militants were extorting money from people during evening hours in different areas of Bandipora town and accordingly a case under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Bandipora and investigation was initiated”.
Stating that during the course of investigation, officers taking assistance of modern techniques and human leads were able to zero in one suspect namely Aejaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bandipora. Subsequently, he was arrested and during questioning he confessed his involvement in the commission of crime. On his disclosure, weapon of offence (knife) used in the commission of crime was also recovered. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
Police arrests drug peddler in Kulgam, recovers contraband substances
Srinagar: Police in Kulgam on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler and also recovered contraband substance from his possession. It also said that 15kgs of poppy straw too have been recovered on disclosure of an already arrested drug peddler.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday police said “a police party from Police Station Qazigund during patrolling in the jurisdiction of PS Qazigund intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag identified as Aabid Ahmad Shah S/O Mohd Yousuf Shah resident of Churat”,adding that “ during checking officer recovered 400 grams of Charas from his possession following which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”.
Stating that accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 217/2021under relevant sections of law stands registered in PS Qazigund and investigation has been initiated, Police in it’s statement also said “in another action, officers during the investigation of case FIR No. 202/2021 of Police Station Kulgam arrested the accused namely Aashiq Hussain Mir @Sikander son of Abdul Hameed Mir resident of Okey Kulgam who further disclosed the presence of additional contraband substance in a vehicle at his native village Okey”, adding that “subsequently, a police party led by DySP Hqrs Kulgam Ghulam Muhamad Bhat alongwith SHO Kulgam raided the specific location and recovered 15 Kgs of Poppy Straw loaded in a vehicle (Load carrier).
The concluding para of the statement reads “the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”, adding that “further investigation is going on”.
