CG SDRF, Principal GMC inaugurate “SUKOON” Helpline at Gulshan Ground Jammu

Jammu: Commandant General (CG), HG/CD and SDRF, V.K Singh and Principal Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, Dr. Shashi Sudan Friday inaugurated SUKOON (a 24×7 Mental Health Helpline) at SDRF Headquarters Gulshan Ground here.
Head of the Department, Psychiatry Government Medical College, Jammu, Dr Manu Arora, Director, Home guards, Jammu, Vikas Gupta, CO, SDRF 2nd Bn Jammu, Nisha Nathyal and SSP, SO to Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF J&K, G L Sharma, DSP SDRF, Anita Pawar besides, others officers of concerned department were present during the function.
In his address, V. K Singh emphasized that the helpline (Toll-free Number 1800-180-7191) shall offer guidance to persons or their well-wishers who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, panic attack, Post Trauma Stress Disorder (PTSD), adjustment disorder, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, mental health emergency and pandemic induced psychologists stress.
He added that the helpline guides caller to avail services of clinical psychologists, therapists, counselors, psychiatrists and provided 24X7 one-to-one support, free and confidential services to those experiencing mental health issues.
V.K Singh said that the staff posted with helpline has been imparted one-week training by renowned mental health experts.
On the occasion, Dr Shashi Sudan appreciated the initiative of the SDRF team in starting the helpline which shall be supporting vulnerable sections in a big way. She also urged youth to avail help line Sukoon’s assistance, if needed.
CO, SDRF 2nd Bn Jammu, Nisha Nathyal also explained that team SDRF has adopted two good practices during the pandemic. She said that first 200 SDRF and 40 NDRF personal were trained for Covid care duties and then deployed at seven hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir.
Head of the Department, Psychiatry Government Medical College, Jammu, while speaking on the occasion, said that the main goal of ‘SUKOON’ is to provide immediate relief and help to youth who feel depressed and anxious.
