New Delhi: In the wake of the militant attack on Amarnath pilgrims, where seven people were killed and other injured, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today called up Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor NN Vohra and took stock of the ground situation.
Mr Singh has also directed the officials to ensure foolproof security in future.
In a series of tweets, the Home Ministry said, “HM (Home Minister) spoke to Governor & CM of Jammu & Kashmir regarding the attack on Amarnath yatris. They have apprised him of the ground situation.”
It also tweeted, “HM has asked the authority to ensure immediate and proper treatment of the injured yatris. The MHA is closely monitoring the situation.”
Mr Singh has called a high-level meeting of Home Ministry, Defence Ministry officials and National Security Adviser (NSA).
Seven Amarnath pilgrims, five of them women, were killed in a militant attack in Anantnag today.
At 2020 hrs today, the militants attacked an armoured car of the police. When the police fired back, the militants fled, firing indiscriminately.
The incident occurred on the highway.
The pilgrims were on way back after visiting the Amarnath shrine.
