Srinagar/ July, 7: Hitting out at the Leader of the Opposition in the state Legislative Assembly for his silence over Goods and Services Tax (GST) during the special session, Independent lawmaker Er Abdul Rashid said Omar Abdullah instead of raising the issue in the House, he preferred to shoot a tweet from some unknown destination to oppose the tax regime.
Meanwhile, Er Rashid also lashed out at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for alleging being a mute spectator in the Assembly during the discussion.
“Both Sheikh and Mufti dynasties have contribute a lot for the wellbeing of the people of the state, there is no doubt about that. But, they are also responsible for the majority of miseries which Kashmiris have been facing since 1947,” Er Rashid said in the Assembly.
He said the only word Ms Mehbooba spoke during the three-day discussion on GST was to offer apology to National Conference (NC) lawmaker Davinder Rana.
“You (Ms Mehbooba) should have said something about the bill. It doesn’t matter, if it was in support of it. It don’t matter if it was the same thing Finance Minister Hasseb Drabu said, but it would have mattered to the people if you had said something about the bill,” Er Rashid said.
“ Abdullah (working president of NC and former CM of J&K) turned to the House just for a day, but didn’t speak even a word as if he was a statue and preferred to shoot a tweet from some unknown destination to oppose GST,” he said.
Taking a jibe at Abdullah over his tweet against GST, he said the NC working president needs to learn if New Delhi doesn’t listen to UN resolutions, why they should give any importance to his tweets.
Er Rashid in the Lower House also alleged that the special session of legislature was called fearing protest calendar from the separatist leaders.
“The special session was called fearing that the separatist will issue protest calendars. But, once they said it was a non-issue, it was downhill from there for the government,” he alleged.
Er Rashid also said that separatists should not downplay the GST issue by claiming that the ultimate goal is right to self-determination.
“We have no reason to doubt sincerity of separatists but they should not downplay any such move that erodes the Autonomy and in the long
