Srinagar: Police on Wednesday foiled the protest sit-in of Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Engineer Abdul Rashid and detained scores of his activists when they sat outside the Civil Secretariat Wednesday to protest against Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation in the state.
The AIP president along with his activists stated sit-in outside secretariat here and chanted anti-GST slogans.
MLA Langate said that the tax law would end the fiscal autonomy of the state.
He said that the GST should not be implemented here as it will infringe the special status of JK.
Er Rashid also said that the verbal assurances from the government are unacceptable to the people. “Government must ensure the security of JK’s special status,” he said.
However, police swung into action and detained Er Rashid along with his activists.
