Srinagar/ July,8 : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Thursday said that five militants were killed in short span of 24 hours in three valley districts.
IGP, Vijay Kumar said, “We received input about movements of militants from Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Kashmir, stating therein further that from Kulgam, we had received inputs that two LeT militants are going to carry out an attack on Jammu-Srinagar highway. Army and Kulgam Police laid ambush and both the local militants were killed.”
“In Pulwama, two militants were hiding in a village where Police, CRPF and army laid a siege and asked them to surrender but the holed up militants didn’t respond to the surrender offer and instead started firing. We retaliated and both the local militants affiliated to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfits were killed. One militant was killed in the Handwara district.In total five militants were killed in 24 hours”, the IGP said.
“Top Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Mehraj-Ud-Din Halwai, who was on Wednesday killed in a gunfight with government forces . The slain militant commander used to recruit and raise funds for militant organisations”, a senior Jammu and Kashmir police official has said. Inspector General of Police Kashmir Police Zone Vijay Kumar had said that Halwai, alias Ubaid was involved in several militancy related crimes, including the killing of civilians.
