GMC Jammu organizes lecture on e-library

Jammu: Government Medical College, Jammu, a premier institute of J&K is serving the community since 1973 with the objective of providing quality education and health care services.
In an endeavor to implement the “Digital India Program” of Government of India, GMC Jammu is in the process of digitising the central medical library of the college.
In this regard, a lecture on e-Library was held in the auditorium of GMC Jammu which was chaired by Principal and Dean GMC Jammu Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma and attended by all the heads of the departments, residents & students.
Various digital technologies & medical e-resources like e-journals, e-books, comprehensive access services, point-of-care clinical resources, digital authentication system and the website of the library were demonstrated.
Principal, GMC Jammu Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma said that the students of GMC Jammu have excelled in all fields of medicine and have made a mark all over the country and the world. The present time is an era of e-technology where students should have access to the best of the available literature on click of a button. The concept of e-library has been introduced and is being used by leading medical colleges of India to ensure that doctors, residents and students continuously refresh their medical education by staying current on medical advances, and utilizing latest medical information in their day-to-day clinical practice, education and research and GMC Jammu should not lag behind in providing the services of e-library to the undergraduate, postgraduate students and the faculty especially during this era of COVID-19 pandemic.
HoDs of different departments expressed the desire to have upgraded e-library at GMC Jammu at the earliest. The students conveyed that present era is an era of information and to get the right information especially when dealing with human life is of utmost importance. The availability of e-library is definitely going to keep them abreast with the latest developments in the field of evidence based medicine all over the world, thereby helping them to become good doctors and treat the patients in the best possible manner.
Once established, access to the latest E-journals & E-books will be given 24X7, 365 days to all the Doctors & Students of GMC Jammu and its allied Hospitals and User ID’s will be given to all the stakeholders, so that they can access Digital Library anytime and from anywhere.
