DC Kupwara launches enumeration, survey of nomadic migratory population in the distt

Kupwara: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din Thursday launched Enumeration/ Survey of Nomadic/ Migratory Population in the district during a function organised at DC Office, here.
On the occasion the DC said that the Jammu and Kashmir Government has begun the first-ever survey and enumeration of the migratory Tribal Population for extending the benefits of various welfare schemes to them.
He further said that the first survey of the nomadic tribal population has been undertaken by the J & K Tribal Affairs Department with the aim to chalk out plans for socio economic development of different tribes.
The DC said that the comprehensive survey of both the nomadic population and various underdeveloped tribal pockets in Jammu & Kashmir is being conducted in collaboration with the District administration and District Planning and Statistics organization.
The first survey to be conducted would be followed by complete documentation and issuance of smart cards with all details of the people of nomadic tribes and others.
Giving details about the main objectives of survey, it was informed that the survey aims at to collect the real time data regarding migratory population so that various problems faced by them are identified; to know the socio-economic status of migratory/nomadic population; to enable the government to extend the benefits of various developmental, welfare, and livelihood oriented programmes to such nomadic/migratory who otherwise are feeling the sense of exclusion and to initiate the measures for strengthening migratory schools, the establishment of hostels, new residential schools etc.
The survey also aims at to expanding access of health facilities and development of health infrastructure for such tribes by reducing distance (through providing services closer to the poor), targeted health promotion, and building of mobile health care units, bedsides, promote higher standards for animal health, husbandry, including hygienic and welfare processing practices.
On the occasion a month-long implementation schedule has been released.
It was also informed that 27 enumeration teams, comprising 104 enumerators have been engaged, besides 13 nodal officers and 5 monitoring teams.
Among others, JD Planning, Ab Majeed; CAHO, DSHO, AD Planning and other concerned officers were present at the occasion.
