Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla & Anantnag districts and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In statement issued here on Wednesday police said that on credible information regarding drug peddling in Nengerpora area of Kunzer, a Police party from Police Station Kunzer under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg on Wednesday raided the specific location.
Stating that during search, officers recovered 14 Kgs of Poppy Straw from the residential house of Tariq Ahmad Ganie son of Gh Qadir Ganie resident of Ganie Mohalla Nengerpora Kunzer, police in it’s above referred statement said that the above named accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Police in it’s statement also said “preliminary investigation reveals that the said accused person was involved in supplying drugs among the youth of the area”.
Stating that in yet another similar incident in Anantnag district officers from PS Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Karkidal Bijbehara intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB10CH-1406 with one person on board identified as Mohd Ashraf Mantoo son of Mohd Ismail Mantoo resident of Takya Maqsood Shah Bijbehara, police in it’s statement further said that during searches 45 Kgs of poppy straw were recovered from the said vehicle following the above named accused was formally arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement police said “Vehicle used in the commission of crime was seized and cases under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Bijbehara and Police Station Kunzer respectively”.
