Srinagar/June, 30 : Chairman People’s Democratic Front ( PDF) Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Wednesday said Sikh- muslim harmony was shining symbol of kashmiri culture and ethos adding that Kashmiri Muslims were committed to safeguard life, honour and integrity of minority communities as preached by the last messenger of Allah, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
In a statement issued today Hakeem while expressing grave concern over recent attempts to create wedge between Sikh and muslim communities in Kashmir said that no body with be allowed to vitiate communal harmony ,which was hallmark of Kashmir’s composite culture and ethos. He has expressed satisfaction over the maturity shown by the members of both Sikh and muslim communities to settle the frivolous inter caste marriage issue amicably, which had become the bone of contention.
While lauding the pragmatic approach taken by the major sikh organisations to settle the issue amicably, Hakeem  condemned those people who came to Srinagar from outside to foment communal trouble and violence. He said gone are the days when kashmiri people including Sikh, muslims, pandits , bodhs and Christians, were being exploited by the vested interests to satiate their vested interests. ” Every effort to play politics on our Brotherhood in Kashmir, would be thwarted unitedly, ” Hakeem resolved.
Regarding allegations about forcible conversion of a sikh girl,Hakeem made it clear that there is no place for “forcible conversion in Islam” . He has assured sikh community of all support and protection to thier religious rights adding that Sikhs are part and parcel of Kashmiri culture and no one should be allowed to disrespect and hurt their sentiments and faith. He has appealed for maintaining communal harmony at all costs adding that Muslims and sikhs of Kashmir have coexisted even in the darkest phase of turmoil in nineties . He  reiterated that muslims of kashmir have high regards for minorities including their sikh brethren.
