Red Cross celebrates ‘World Blood Donor day-2021’

Srinagar: Indian Red Cross Society, UT Headquarters of Jammu & Kashmir Monday organised a Blood Donation camp on the eve of ‘World Blood Donor Day-2021’ themed ‘Donate Blood & Keep the World Beating’ at Red Cross House, Exchange Road, here.
The Camp was inaugurated by Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Honorary General Secretary, IRCS-J&K in presence of M S Rather, Former General Secretary, IRCS-J&K, G.A. Qureshi, Honorary Treasurer, IRCS-J&K, M.Y. Zargar, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-Regional Branch, Kashmir and prominent Members and Volunteers of Red Cross.
The drive saw close to 40 voluntary blood donors, office bearers of IRCS-J&K and Staff members coming together to donate blood for a noble cause. Volunteers and medical staff helped the people and gave moral support to the people donating blood. Donors were provided with the sealed refreshment packs keeping in view the COVID SOPs.
Similar camps were organised at IRCS, Regional Branch Jammu and District Branches of IRCS at Pulwama, Shopian, Kupwara, Kishtwar and Kathua with prime objective to spread awareness about the benefits of blood donation besides saving a human life. Total of 153 points of blood have been collected in these camps.
Speaking on the occasion, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi appreciated the blood donors for their noble sentiment and selfless human services. He further said that those who donated the blood have in fact saved a human life.
The Honorary General Secretary while saluting the selfless and noble service of volunteers and blood donors said that IRCS-J&K has been at the forefront to provide quick relief during the distressed periods like fire, floods, earthquakes and pandemics.
IRCS besides distributing food kits and Hygiene kits during the recent months, distributed tents, blankets, buckets, tarpaulin to fire victims of sweeper colony, Noor Bagh area of Baramulla, besides financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 14.50 Lakhs.
The cash assistance and relief material to fire victims was provided by District Red Cross Committee, Baramulla, through its Chairman.
At the end, Honorary Treasurer, IRCS-J&K thanked all participants and medical staff of Associated Hospitals, Srinagar for their technical co-operation.
