Srinagar: Panic gripped in S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) when fire broke out in a ward at third floor of the hospital in the wee hours of Friday, official sources said.
They said fire broke out in Ward 3P store room in the SKIMS in the wee hours. However, fire tenders were rushed to the hospital from different parts of the city, they said adding personnel from the Fire and Emergency brought the fire under control before spreading to main ward and other areas.
Officials said no patient had to be evacuated from the ward.
The cause of fire is stated to be short circuit, they said adding minor damage was caused to electricity fitting.
SKIMS is one of the main hospital treating COVID-19 patients in the Kashmir valley. Attendants of patients were seen taking videos of the fire fighting operation with their mobile phones.
About 50 COVID patients died in different hospitals due to fire incidents in the country.
