Srinagar: A day after four Kupwara minors’ attempt to cross over to other side of the Line of Control was foiled, police today claimed that another in another instance a 14-year old student of Bandipora was intercepted enroute to Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) for arms training.
A senior police officer said that fourteen old Mohammad Qadeer Lone, son of Fayaz Ahmad Lone, resident of Naidkhai Sumbal in Bandipora district, who is a class 8th student of Eagle English Medium Public School Bomai Sopore, was intercepted by police naka party in Uri area of Baramulla district.
He said, “On enquiry it was found that he wanted to cross LOC to get arms training in PaK and become militant. He was counselled and handed over to parents,” the official added. The police in Kupwara yesterday said that four teenagers were held after they were trying to cross LoC to “change lifestyle”. All the four were handed over to their parents after counseling.
Meanwhile, the government forces continued its cordon and search operations (CASO) in Srinagar today to track down the militants believed to be roaming in the summer capital including in downtown areas. Sources said that the forces launched CASO at Wanganpora Eidgah in the jurisdiction of Safa Kadal police station and also at Mochwa in Bagh-e-Mehtab on Srinagar outskirts. Reports however said that no one was arrested.
Meanwhile, two IEDs were detected and defused in Dangerpora area of Pulwama district by government forces late night. According to an official, the forces detected two IEDs each weighing 5 kilograms at Dangerpora near Bypass. The forces later summoned BDS and defused the IEDs.(GNS)
