DC Ang seeks cooperation of Imams, religious leaders on implementation of covid guidelines

Ang: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla Wednesday held an interactive meeting with prominent religious leaders, Imams and Khateebs of the district at Dak Bangalow Khanabal here.
The aim of the session was to thoroughly sensitise them about Covid-19 pandemic besides seeking their cooperation in containing the fresh wave of the deadly disease.
At the outset, the DC urged the Imams and religious leaders to fulfill their responsibility during this pandemic for a larger humanitarian cause so the infection is contained effectively and precious lives are saved.
He said the religious leaders, Imams, Khateebs and Management Committees of local Masjids have a key role during the fresh wave of Covid-19 and appealed to them to use their influence for ensuring every person follows Covid appropriate behavior in and outside the mosques.
He also impressed upon them to sensitise people to get vaccinated at an earliest adding that the vaccine is safe and efficacious against Covid-19 infection.
Dr. Singla emphasised that the war against the pandemic will be won only by collective efforts and everyone needs to be responsible at this critical juncture.
The SSP, Imtiyaz Hussain and ADC, Ghulam Hassan also addressed the meeting and impressed upon the religious leaders to play their active role in leading the society out of the pandemic.
On the occasion, the CMO, Dr. Mukhtar and Dy. CMO, Dr. M. Y Zagoo explained in simplest terms the cause, modes of transmission, testing, symptoms and management of the disease besides the role of SOPs and Vaccination in containing it.
The Imams, Khateebs and other Religious leaders assured full support to the administration in this regard. They pledged to follow in letter and spirit the decisions and directions of administration that are being issued for tackling the rate of infections.
Meanwhile, it was given out to mandatorily limit the size of gatherings to 50 persons with full adherence to Covid-19 SOPs in all mosques of the district. It was further given out that strict legal action will be taken against the violators for larger public health and safety.
Earlier, similar meetings were held at Subdivision and Tehsil levels by respective SDMs and Tehsildars.
