In today’s time we have been hearing the words like “Anxiety””Stress” and most commonly “Depression”. These words are being heard from a particular section of society called ” Youth “. It’s not that only youth is suffering from it, many married and old aged people are suffering from it but nowadays it’s effecting youth the way it shouldn’t have been. Remember being poor or rich has nothing to be with Depression. Yes some may have depression because of their poor living condition but it goes away once the conditions get better but many a times depression and living conditions can’t be held for depression. It’s often said “These big walls doing having peace” and that’s a reality to a very long extant.Yes stress can be something that a person might be suffering from for having poor living conditions but that isn’t long lasting. Okay coming back to our youth who’s suffering from depression very badly which is really an alarming situation. If things go this way we will have a very dark future because “Youth is the future” is well known to everyone. These days it’s said “This is the generation of sad faces with smiling photos” . If we interpret the meaning we will have the whole sceanrio of today’s generation. Well none the we all these days have youth saying that they are suffering from “Depression” but why are they always put off by saying that it’s nothing like that and they must concentrate on studies. Unfortunately we don’t know that while they are suffering from depression they can’t concentrate on anything . We need to understand that Depression is something for real and it needs to be addressed.

The parents and the friends must seriously address this issue or else it will become a difficult thing for them to deal with. Depression, in psychology means a mood or emotional state that is marked by feelings of low self-worth or guilt and a reduced ability to enjoy life. A person who is depressed usually experiences several of the following symptoms: feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or pessimism; lowered self-esteem and heightened self-depreciation; a decrease or loss of ability to take pleasure in ordinary activities; reduced energy and vitality; slowness of thought or action; loss of appetite; and disturbed sleep or insomnia. And the Depression in simple language means ,depression is a constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest, which stops you doing your normal activities. Different types of depression exist, with symptoms ranging from relatively minor to severe. Generally, depression does not result from a single event, but from a mix of events and factors.Lots of things can increase the chance of depression, including the following:
Age: People who are elderly are at higher risk of depression. That can be made worse by other factors, such as living alone and having a lack of social support.
Conflict: Depression in someone who has the biological vulnerability to it may result from personal conflicts or disputes with family members or friends.
Death or a loss: Sadness or grief after the death or loss of a loved one, though natural, can increase the risk of depression.
Gender: Women are about twice as likely as men to become depressed. No one’s sure
Genes: A family history of depression may increase the risk. It’s thought that depression is a complex trait, meaning there are probably many different genes that each exert small effects, rather than a single gene that contributes to disease risk.
Major events: Even good events such as starting a new job, graduating, or getting married can lead to depression. So can moving, losing a job or income, getting divorced, or retiring. However, the syndrome of clinical depression is never just a “normal” response to stressful life events.
Other personal problems: Problems such as social isolation due to other mental illnesses or being cast out of a family or social group can contribute to the risk of developing clinical depression.
Serious illnesses: Sometimes, depression happens along with a major illness or may be triggered by another medical condition.
Substance misuse: Nearly 30% of people with substance misuse problems also have major or clinical depression. Even if drugs or alcohol temporarily make you feel better, they ultimately will aggravate depression. If we speak about the types of depression there are following types of depression.
1:- Major Depression, 2:- Persistent Depressive Disorder, 3:- Bipolar disorder(manic depression), 4:- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), 5:- Psychotic Depression, 6:- Peripartum (Postpartum) Depression 7:- Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) , 8:- Situation Depression, and 9:- Atypical Depression.
While as if we look at the symptoms of all the above mentioned types. They mostly are change in sleep, mood swings, feeling of overwhelming, change in food habits, sleep more than usual and etc. Many people especially youth are witnessing such changes but even after that we don’t recognize them. We are worried about the diseases like cancer, Tuberculosis, asthma and nowadays covid because all the disease mostly lead to death but we must the Depression is a silent killer and more deadly than other deadly diseases. We often come across news about “Suicide” and when asked the parents or anyone about the reason they say we don’t know. What must have led to his suicide? It’s this depression that made him commit suicide. We must remember that Depression has no age and we must take person or people complaining about it seriously and know that person suffering from depression isn’t “Mentally Retarded” he’s same as aperson suffering from any known disease and needs love and care more than medicine.
