4 gamblers arrested in Kulgam, stake money seized: Police

Srinagar: Police in Kulgam on Tuesday arrested four gamblers from a gambling site and seized ₹5,500/- stake money.
A police statement issued on Tuesday said “ A police party from Police Station Devsar raided a gambling site following an input about gambling activities near Sopat Gundipora crossing and apprehended four gamblers identified as Jahangir Ahmad Shah, Abdul Ahad Bhat, Abdul Rashid Bhat and Javid Ahmad Shah all residents of Gundipora, Kulgam”.
Claiming that stake money of ₹5,500/- and playing cards were siezed from the detained gamblers, police in it’s above referred statement said that the gamblers have been shifted to Police Station Devsar where they remain in custody, adding that case FIR No. 12/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Devsar and investigation has been initiated.
Police in it’s above referred statement also warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
6 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam & Awantipora, Contraband substances recovered: Police
Srinagar: Police on Tuesday arrested six drug peddlers in Kulgam & Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police statement issued on Tuesday said “In Kulgam, officers established two checking points near Khudwani and Railway Bridge Wanpoh in the jurisdiction of Police Station Qaimoh and intercepted four persons identified as Irfan Rashid Dar, Aabid Hussain Reshi both residents of Hanjipora Mirbazar, Ansar Ahmad Mir and Bilal Ahmad Ganie both residents of Pethbugh Dialgam Anantnag”, adding that “during checking, officers recovered 12Kgs of Poppy Straw and 5gms of Heroin from the possession of the accused who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody”.
Police in it’s statement also said that cases vide FIR numbers 11/2021 & 12/2021 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Qaimoh and further investigation has been initiated.
Stating that in a similar incident in Awantipora, officers at a check point established at Reshipora Bund intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK18-0221 and identified them as Parvez Ahmad Sheikh and Amir Maqbool both residents of Reshipora Awantipora, police in it’s above referred statement said that during checking4Kgs of grinded Cannabis was recovered from the possession of the accused who were arrested later and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, stating therein that motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that a case vide FIR No. 32/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated, police in the above referred statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
