Shopian: The Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Thursday, flagged off a team of 33 school children of different schools of the Shopian district for participating in inter-district sports competitions being held at Reasi, Udhampur, and Kathua districts of Jammu Division.
Speaking at the occasion, DC said that sports are the basic element that helps students to grow physically and urged upon the student community to take part in sports activities, apart from their curricular activities. While interacting with the players, the DC advised them to play with full vigor to shine the name of the district. DC appreciated the organizers for holding such tournaments which will help to keep the young generation away from lethal mobile games, drugs, social evils and inculcate the spirit of leadership and unity among them. He said that the district administration will provide every possible support to boost sports activities in the district.
Among others, DYSSO, Shopian, Gurmukh Singh Dutta, District Information Officer, Shopian, Showkat Ahamd Khan and other functionaries the DYS&S were present on the occasion.
