Srinagar: Awami National Conference (ANC) senior vice-president, Muzaffar Shah, Wednesday sought proof from his uncle, and former chief minister of J&K, Dr Farooq Abdullah, that ‘buy and sell’ policy was adopted to ‘topple’ his government in 1984.
Addressing a press conference here, Shah expressed ‘displeasure’ over Dr Farooq’s remarks on the floor of the Parliament regarding 1984 ‘change in government’. Shah advised Farooq to raise 1953 incident instead of making false assertions.
He, however, showered heaps of praises over what he termed ‘bold’ speech by NC President over the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in the Parliament. Shah, however claimed that it was his uncle, Farooq Abdullah who called council of Minister’s in Sheikh Abdullah’s cabinet as ‘bunch’ of thieves.
“Whatever you (Dr Farooq) asserted regarding 1984 is untrue. I request you to give a single proof that buy and sell policy was adopted to topple your government in 1984. It’s you on record to say at Iqbal Park, Srinagar that council of ministers in Sher-e-Kashmir’s cabinet is bunch of thieves,” he said adding does that mean Sheri-Kashmir was ‘kingpin’ of thieves.
ANC leader said National Conference is not personal property of any individual as it belongs to everyone right from Lakahnpur to Neelam Valley. He also said when enemy forces targeted their family, he hit them back saying Farooq Abdullah could be anything but not ‘corrupt’.
“When BJP leaders including Shahnawaz Hussain and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi arrived here for campaigning claimed that few families resorted to loot and plunder in Jammu and Kashmir, but I hit them back and said Farooq Abdullah and our family could be anything but not corrupt,” he added.
Shah advised Dr Farooq Abdullah to guide PAGD constituents on how to tackle enemies who abrogated Articles 370 and 35A than to make false assertions that his government was toppled with the help of money
