SMC’s mask use campaign: Dy Mayor, Comr SMC inspects public places, passenger buses, Pvt vehicles, Pedestrians, bikers , departmental stores

Srinagar Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation Gazanfar Ali along with Secretary SMC Sofi Akbar and other senior officers of the Corporation Friday toured from city centre upto TRC and adjoining areas of Lal Chowk also to inspect the implementation of directives to be followed in letter and spirit for Masks up Srinagar campaign.

While inspecting various shops,shopping malls, institutions,Departmental stores, Pedestrians Commisssioner SMC also checked the passenger buses, bikers, private vehicles , banks and other institutions to see whether people were wearing masks and following Covid 19 guidelines.. During inspection people who were found out to be without masks were fined on spot. While interacting with Media Mr Ali briefed them about the various initiatives that are being taken up for implementation of Covid guidelines with a greater focus on getting masked up which is necessary to protect own self and others from spreading or contracting the deadly disease Covid 19

The initiative to impose fine and keep a tight check on people for wearing masks is imperative as it will also encourage people who are negligent and do not show a collective Responsibility towards implementation of Covid guidelines and go with out masks at public places said Mr Ali. SMC created several designated teams that started the Mask up Campaign in all the 35 wards in srinagar city under the supervision of concerned Ward officers.

In another team Deputy Mayor Mr Parvez Qadri along with Joint Commisssioner Adm Syed Abul Qasim and other Officers visited Karan Nagar, Kaksarai and its adjoining areas to inspect the implementation of the recently announced Masks up Srinagar initiative campaign that began from Friday. Qadri while touring to these areas also interacted with people on roads, shops and passengers regarding importance of wearing masks and further saving human lives by abiding by to the norms for Covid 19 pandemic.
During the drive fine was recovered from the defaulters. On the occasion a heavy fine was recovered from different areas of Srinagar city from the defaulters. Besides designated teams, Many Corporators also actively took up Masks Up campaign within their jurisdiction/ electoral wards.

Many awareness programmes were organised in different wards including Nishat ,Lal Chowk, Batamaloo etc. Hundreds of face masks were distributed among the people including the tourists who were not wearing the face masks and were requested to make use of face masks regularly once they step out of their homes. The campaign will continue till all people get habitual of wearing face masks while venturing out and also follow other norms including social distancing set under Covid 19 guidelines further stated Commissioner SMC
