KTMF calls for strike on Sat against its implementation

Srinagar: Reiterating its stand to oppose implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state, the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) Thursday called for a strike against the extension of the tax regime to J&K on Saturday, the day when the special session of legislature will commence.
“The traders federation is determined to the cause of retaining the identity of the state and will not let the government to fiddle with it. We have taken all the stakeholders of all the three region on board. There is a consensus among all of us that GST is a threat to our identity,” KTMF chairman Mohammad Yasin Khan told reporters at a press conference here Thursday.
Mr Khan, who is also the chief of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), said that they will oppose the GST tooth and nail.
Accusing government of trying to dilute the disputed nature of the state by implementing GST, he said they will hit the roads across the state if the tax regime is extended to the state.
He urged people to observe a complete shutdown against the proposed implementation of GST in the state on Saturday, when a special Assembly session has been called to table and pass the GST regime.
