Edu & Works ministers conduct extensive tour of Cluster University Colleges

Srinagar/June,14: Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari accompanied by Minister for Public Works (R&B) Naeem Akhtar Thursday conducted extensive tour of constituent colleges of Cluster University Srinagar and reviewed the ongoing construction works being carried under Rashtriya Uchchattar Shikhsha Abhiyan (RUSA).

The Ministers were accompanied by Dr Asghar Samoon Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Prof Sheikh Javid Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Chief Engineer PWD Kashmir and other senior officers of department of higher education and public works departments.

The Ministers took stock of ongoing works at Government College for Women MA Road Srinagar, SP College Srinagar, College of Education Srinagar, A S College and GDC Bemina.

The joint tour kick started from Women’s College, M A Road where the construction of School of Engineering Technology and Computer Technology is underway.

The ministers were informed that the construction work on the buildings will be completed by March 2018 at the revised cost of Rs 476.77 lakh. The construction of classrooms at the cost of Rs 471.93 lakh will be completed too by the same time.

The Minister for Education directed the officers of the executing agency–R&B department to speed up the pace of work and complete all the construction works taken under RUSA within the given time frame.

On his visit to S P College, the Minister for Education reviewed the construction of Auditorium being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 544.33 Lakh and construction of classrooms with the project cost of Rs 471.93 lakh.

Bukhari was informed that both the projects will be completed by March 2018. However the construction of Canteen/ Cafeteria, Toilet shall be completed by September 2017 at the estimated cost of Rs 45.04 lakh.

The construction work of School of Teacher Education block and construction of Canteen/Cafeteria, Toilet Block and Miscellaneous at Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (College of Education), M.A Road will be completed by September 2017 at the estimated cost of Rs 308.95 lakh.

On his visit to Amar Singh College, Bukhari observed that there was low progress in the construction. Five blocks including Admin Block, VC’s Office, Humanities block, classrooms, Canteen, Toilet and Central Library blocks are currently under construction under RUSA. He directed the concerned officers to gear up and complete their target within the stipulated timeframe.

At Government Degree College Bemina, the minister reviewed the construction of Hostel Building, Classrooms block, School of Social Science block and Canteen, Toilet and Misc block which is being constructed at the total estimated cost of Rs 929.76 lakh and will be completed by October 2017.

Later, both the Ministers visited the proposed site for Bus Stand at Parimpora and observed that the roads were in dilapidated conditions. They directed the concerned officers to repair the roads at an earliest for smooth flow of traffic and pedestrian movement in the area.
