For conceding the control of 13 districts to Peoples Alliance For Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) in just concluded elections for district development councils in Jammu & Kashmir the leaders of both the central and J&K BJP should have been hanging their heads in shame but unfortunately they are resorting to the practices of the worst form of horse trading by trying to win over the support of independent victorious DDC members in different districts of both Kashmir valley and Jammu region. Fact remains that not overall nos in the district development council results but the control over the no of district development councils by virtue of the majority support of newly elected DDC members matters the most as it shows the control of a particular party or a combination of parties over the new district development councils in Jammu & Kashmir. With the support of round the clock campaigning by high profile union ministers including the likes of Anurag Thakur, Simriti Irani and Ravi Shankar Prasad the J&K BJP could not stop National Conference and PDP the two parties having strongholds in Kashmir valley from wresting it’s control from some key DDC constituencies in BJP’s strongholds in Jammu region. While it should have been the time of introspection for both the central and the local BJP leadership in Jammu & Kashmir, the highly responsible union ministers and top J&K BJP leaders are shamelessly trying to create the single largest party narrative as if their party has electorally conquered the entire Jammu & Kashmir since downgraded from a state to union territory on August 5 last year by a government controlled by their own party at the centre.

With top journalists and eye watchers in both Jammu & Kashmir and New Delhi raising questions over the abortive attempt of the BJP leaders to unsuccessfully create single largest party narrative in the just concluded DDC election on the basis that it’s vote share has also gone down to 32% in comparison to 40% of National Conference and 27% of PDP , the DDC election results are by and large seen as a referendum over J&K reorganization act and withdrawal of special status taken by the BJP controlled central government on August 5 last year. Undoubtedly the people have delivered the verdict for an alliance which pitches for restoration of both the statehood and special status and territorial position as it existed on August 4, 2019 and not the architects of the bifurcation of the erstwhile state and withdrawal of special status.
