Truthfulness in politics is though a welcome gesture but without compromises on public rights and responsibility which is the prime duty of public functionaries be they the politicians, bureaucrats, journalists, doctors or the lawyers. Truthfulness in politics is not about achievability and non-achievability but about fight for public rights with responsibility. Real test of truthfulness for people in politics comes when people want them to show capacity to generate hopes in a situation of hopelessness by helping them in an era of helplessness. While preaching truthfulness politicians have no right what so ever to ask people to forget about their own genuine concerns over basic citizenship rights taken away through abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35 A in Jammu & Kashmir state and enforcement of new citizenship amendment act (CAA) in rest of the country in the year 2019. Unfortunately politicians within and outside Jammu & Kashmir are suffering from the crisis of credibility because of their untruthfulness. Public protests against the laws consented by the elected representatives of people in the highest legislative boy of the country called parliament show the untruthfulness of power wielding politicians. Never forget that had COVID-19 pandemic not spread with high intensity in the country, the public protests against the implementation of the citizenship amendment act (CAA) would have spread with greater intensity than the ongoing farmers’ protests in Delhi. Leaders tending to propagate politics of truthfulness in Jammu & Kashmir as such have to therefore identity themselves with the public currents instead of tending to go against the public aspirations concerning lives and livelihood of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

A misinterpretation of political truthfulness does not change the public opinion about the rights of the people over their citizenship and public representation and henceforth the ground reality too does not change by misinterpretation of political truthfulness and more so when it comes to the issue of the rights of the people and responsibility of public functionaries in Jammu & Kashmir.

While the undeniable fact is that leaders going against the public currents are dubbed irresponsible and saboteurs of truthfulness, on the contrary leaders supporting people in fight for their basic citizenship rights are called sponsors and supporters of truthfulness. A misinterpretation of political truthfulness does not change the public opinion about the rights of the people over their citizenship and public representation and henceforth the ground reality too does not change by misinterpretation of political truthfulness and more so when it comes to the issue of the rights of the people and responsibility of public functionaries in Jammu & Kashmir. So when the misinterpretation of political truthfulness won’t change neither the public opinion nor the ground reality in Jammu & Kashmir, the claims of the creating a different political narrative are unlikely to hold ground in Jammu & Kashmir. Responsible responses to the citizenship rights of the people are the only way to rectify old wrongs in pursuit of a broader objective of political truthfulness in Jammu & Kashmir.
