Defection: A bigger challenge than elections

Usually the people tend to make choices between the performers and non-performers but in the ongoing DDC elections they are supposed to choose between the performers and defectors. Very shocking it is that defectors have outnumbered performers in the mainstream parties in Jammu & Kashmir and keeping in view the intents of defectors it is very difficult for the electors to make a right choice in ongoing DDC elections.  Though the morality of the traditional parties over their alliance with BJP in yesteryears comes into question from the leaders of other parties maintaining equidistance from both the BJP and as well as “Peoples Alliance For Gupkar Declaration” (PAGD) but interestingly the leaders questioning the alliance of traditional parties with the BJP in yesteryears have been themselves part of the BJP backed coalition governments in Jammu and Kashmir. Defectors not giving up the politics of defections even after the downgrading of Jammu & Kashmir from a state to a union territory would by all probabilities become a permanent threat to political stability in Jammu and Kashmir as there is no stringent law in place to curb the defections of the elected representatives.  In the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state a stringent law over defections in legislative bodies had almost shut the doors for defections in the mainstream parties, but the law stand scrapped with the scrapping of almost all old laws concerning legislative matters. Defections becoming the sources of self empowerment for defectors in mainstream politics would most likely become as easy in Jammu & Kashmir as are in the rest of the country. The election of the Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation has already set a new trend of defections in Jammu & Kashmir.

The leaders selling the dreams of peoples’ empowerment in election time can change the course of mainstream politics in presence of an unprecedented rise in defections and as such curbing defections is a much bigger challenge than winning elections for the political game changers in mainstream politics in Jammu & Kashmir .

Since defection in politics begins with confusion, compounding the already prevailing confusion by making more confusing remarks against their own core political ideologies just for pelf and power has become the new trend for mainstream leaders in Jammu & Kashmir. With defections becoming the sources of self empowerment for the mainstream leaders, both the BJP and the non BJP parties are generating hopes in an era of hopelessness.  Unless and until the mainstream parties don’t give up the nonstop practice of opening doors for defectors in election time, the new trend of defections can’t be overcome in Jammu & Kashmir for a very very long time to come.  The leaders selling the dreams of peoples’ empowerment in election time can change the course of mainstream politics in presence of an unprecedented rise in defections and as such curbing defections is a much bigger challenge than winning elections for the political game changers in mainstream politics in Jammu & Kashmir .
