Srinagar Police arrests 2 drug peddlers, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar: Police in Srinagar have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

A police statement issued on Thursday said , “officers while patrolling at Malkha Chowk Nowhatta signalled a person riding a bike bearing registration No JK01U-8310 to stop but while trying to escape from the spot he was tactfully nabbed by the patrolling party and has been identified as Mohd Sharief Dar resident of Miskeen Bagh Riyaza Taing Khanyar Srinagar”.
Stating that during checking, officers were able to recover 225gms of Charas concealed in polythene from his possession, police in it’s statement further said that officers at a checkpoint established at Khwaja Bazar Chowk intercepted one passenger auto bearing registration No JK01G-4383 driven by Fayaz Ahmad Lone resident of Bota Kadal Lalbazar Srinagar”.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 185 banned tablets/capsules from his possession and the drug peddlers were arrested and shifted to PS Nowhatta where they remain in custody”, the statement reads, adding that “vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized”.
Police in it’s statement also said a case vide FIR numbers 52/2020 and 53/2020 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Nowhatta and investigation has been initiated.
Police in it’s statement has also appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has reiterated that actions against drug peddlers are part of the efforts made to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
