Srinagar: Chairman People’s Democratic Front (PDF ) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has slammed LG administration for its failure to regulate smooth movement of fruit laden trucks on Srinagar – Jammu National Highway. He said halting of fruit laden trucks on Srinagar-Jammu National highway inflicts huge losses to fruit growers and traders adding that despite repeated pleas by the concerned fruit growers in this regard, the L G administration has miserably failed to address the issue.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Hakeem while castigating L G administration for its failure to ensure uninterrupted movement of fruit laden trucks from kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, has sought immediate attention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to redress grievances of fruit growers and traders in this regard. He said halting of fruit laden trucks on National highway has become a serious cause of concern for the fruit growers and traders as it causes huge monetary losses to them. He said on the eve of coming Deepawali festival, fruit growers and traders of kashmir want to send thier fruit produce to outside fruit mandis for better remuneration but due to halting of fruit trucks on National highway, the fresh fruit gets perished before reaching to respective fruit markets causing huge losses to them.
Hakeem has cautioned the administration that if grievances of fruit growers and traders, regarding hassle free transportation of fruit from Kashmir, are not resolved, they will be forced to come on roads. He said fruit growers and traders associations all over Jammu and Kashmir have been continuously protesting against failure of the administration in streamlining the traffic movement of fruit trucks on National highway but the concerned departments seems to be in deep slumber and motion less. He said business in Kashmir has suffered a huge loss estimated to Rs 15000 cr during last two years in the aftermath of August 5 , last year situation. He has urged the government to come at the rescue of fruit growers and traders and save them from further economic distress. He has also demanded a comprehensive relief package for the fruit growers and traders especially waiving of loans under Kssan Credit Card (KCC ) scheme.
