DDC Ganderbal chairs DRSC meeting

G’bal:The District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal Monday chaired the District Road Safety Committee meeting to discuss road safety plans for the district and reviewed the actions taken on decisions taken in the last meeting.
During the meeting threadbare discussions were held on various issues including, identification of black spots and accident prone areas, removal of encroachment on important roads, identification of places where different road signages are to be erected, construction of footpaths, provision of trauma and healthcare facilities to the victims of road accidents and mass awareness through print and electronic media.
On the occasion, several decisions were taken up in the meeting for controlling and minimizing accidents, smooth flow of traffic and implementing effective road safety mechanisms in the district.
The DDC directed the concerned to organize special camps, awareness programme during the proceedings of Block Diwas on Wednesdays and generating awareness amongst people for making roads safer to commuters in the district.
He also exhorted for removing construction material and cow dung from the road sides which are the main cause of accidents and traffic jams.
The DDC also stressed the Ex. Engineer R&B and PMGSY for conducting road safety audits of all the roads besides identifying the places where different road signages and speed breakers are to be erected for avoiding the accidents.
He also directed the health department to constitute medical teams for checking eye sight, hearing capacity and blood pressure of drivers and asked the ARTO to carry special drives in this regard.
The DDC stressed for curbing traffic rules violations in the town and stressed for booking the traffic violators under MV Act in different offences like not wearing crash helmet, plying without documents, rash/negligent driving, overloading and use of mobile phones while driving.
The DDC sought cooperation from all stakeholders for mitigating the road accidents and for better management of traffic within the district.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ARTO Ganderbal, Dy. SP Traffic, Executive Engineers of R&B and PMGSY, Dy. SP HQ, EO Municipality, Dy. CEO besides officials from the Health department.
