Srinagar: Chairman People’s Democratic Front ( PDF) Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Monday voiced serious concern over the report of ‘Center for Monitoring Indian Economy, (CMIE) ‘ that Jammu and kashmir has dismal performance among other states of the country in taping it’s existing employment potential for its unemployed youth. Aper the report , un- employment percentage in jammu and kashmir stands at 16.2 percent which is highest as compared to other states and Union Territories of the country.
In a statement issued on Monday, Hakeem while expressing his concern over the report of the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) that Jammu and Kashmir has miserably failed to exploit it’s existing employment potential, has enjoined upon the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to concentrate it’s full attention towards generating job opportunities for unemployment youth. He said CMIE in its latest report has indicated that unemployment ratio in India stands at 6.7 percent that suggest that unemployment ratio in Jammu and Kashmir was highest as compared to national average. He said it was very unfortunate and disgusting that Jammu and Kashmir government has miserably failed to exploit existing employment opportunities both in public and private sectors as indicated in the CMIE report. He said though employment avenues in Jammu and Kashmir were already scare due to its disadvantageous geographical location, rugged terrain and limited industrial opportunities – the misfortune – that has been further aggravated due to failure of Jammu and Kashmir government to exploit the little more available employment opportunities for its youth. He said burgeoning unemployment problem in the politically and strategically sensitive Jammu and Kashmir was serious issue as this problem could be easily exploited and misused by the enemies of peace and vested interests.
PDF Chairman urged Center and state governments to focus on exploiting all the available employment opportunities both in public and private sectors without further delay besides announcing a mega employment package for J&K youth in all central government departments and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).” As a goodwill gesture, Center should announce special job quota in all central government departments and PSUs for the unemployment youth of Jammu and Kashmir,” Hakeem maintained adding that the step would go a long way in removing prevailing alienation and worries about future among the youth. He said economy of Jammu and Kashmir has been badly hit by the situation emerging after August 5, last year along with severe Coronovirus lockdown this year adding that government was duty bound to come to the rescue of worst effected people especially associated with tourism, transport, horticulture sectors and medium and small industries. He has urged the LG Manoj Sinha to waive off all bank loans under Kisaan Credit Card scheme to win good will of poor farming community and to provide some economic respite to them. He said people of Jammu and Kashmir have pinned high hopes on new LG after his repeated assurances that no stone with be left unturned to redress genuine grievances of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
