Fresh summons of enforcement directorat (ED) an investigative agency directly controlled by the central government against Dr Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference President and the incumbent member parliament from Srinagar parliamentary constituency, over his alleged involvement into JKCA (Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association) scam has won Dr Abdullah political support from his one time political rivals now coming together under his leadership for restoration of statehood and special status to Jammu & Kashmir. The timing and situation for the fresh notices from enforcement directorate (ED) to Dr Farooq Abdullah attracts criticism from both within and outside Jammu & Kashmir as he recently brought six mainstream parties under one umbrella to float a major political alliance for restoration of statehood, article 370 and article 35 A taken away by the incumbent central government just in one day on August 5 last year. Controversial decisions coming from the central government over the premature retirement of government employees and constitution of 14 constituencies in each one of the all districts across Jammu & Kashmir for formation of district development councils (DDCs) are deviating the attention of the people from ED investigation against Farooq Abdullah over his charges into JKCA scam to central’s government’s provocative measures announced since August 5 last year. Decisions taken without proper application of mind both against the mainstream leadership and as well as the general masses including employees won’t take government closer to people at the grass but would gradually take leaders of the newly floated “ Peoples Alliance” closer to people at the grass roots and in the process the already intensifying alienation between the people and the government will deepen further in both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division . In the prevalent political atmosphere better it would be for the central government to leave the implementation of new laws for the next elected government in Jammu & Kashmir and take measures for restoration of popular rule without suspending any investigation at any level against any mainstream political leader irrespective of his position and status in the fastly changing political scenario of Jammu & Kashmir.
The actions of the central government show that it has no roadmap for reconciling the people with the political, constitutional, institutional and administrative measures announced and implemented since August 5, 2019 last year in Jammu & Kashmir. A half hearted offensive against corruption and an indefensible defence over provocative measures taken by the central government day in and day out won’t take it no where nearer to the people at the grass roots.
Unfortunately the central government is simultaneously carrying out offensive measures both against the mainstream leadership and as well as the hapless populations of Jammu & Kashmir and such a policy would only give strength to the political forces opposed to last year’s August 5 decisions and render irrelevant new political parties tending to reconcile themselves with the post August 5,2019 scenario.
