Police inspector killed in Bijbehara

Ang: A policeman who was killed outside his residence in Sundpora Kanelwan area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag.
Officials said militants fired upon a policeman outside his residence, leaving him severely wounded.
They added the injured cop was immediately shifted to Bijbehara hospital. However, the injured cop succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Block Medical officer (BMO) Bijbehara Dr Muhammad Iqbal Bichoo said a policeman with fire arm injuries was brought dead to the hospital.
The deceased cop was identified as Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, son of Muhammad Ramzan Bhat, who was posted at Lethpora Pulwama.
A police officer said that area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, police in a statement issued here on Monday said that a police inspector was shot dead by militants in Chandpora Bijbehara area of Anantnag district and senior police officers have reached the spot soon after the incident took place.
“Today at about 1830 hours, militants fired upon a police inspector identified as Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Bhat son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat resident of Chandpora Kanelwan near his residence. The officer received gunshot injuries and was evacuated to nearby hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom,” police said.
“Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this case,” the statement added.
To pay honour and respect to the slain, a wreath laying ceremony led by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar was held at DPL Anantnag, where floral tributes were paid to the slain.
DIG SKR, SSP’s of Anantnag, Pulwama and Awantipora besides, other officers and colleagues of the slain also laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the slain.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police stands by the bereaved family at this critical juncture and pay our rich tributes to the slain,” police said
