PSAJK observes Int’l Day of rural women 2020 in Kupwara, commits itself to girl child welfare

Kupwara: Private Schools Association J&K in Collaboration with Ahsan Foundation J&K and NYK Kupwara observed International Day of Rural Women 2020 at Alexander Secretary School Kupwara. The programme was attended by hundreds of women, ASHA and Anganwari workers, Youth Volunteers of NYK Kupwara.
S S P Civil Secretariat, J&K Nighat Aman was Chief Guest and G N Var President Private Schools Association J&K was Guest of Honour on the occasion.
The Association termed the day as one of the most important days of the year when people could be made aware of the issues and challenges facing rural women and possible solutions to such problems. Nighat Aman while speaking on the occasion said that participating in such a function in Kupwara has made her emotional. “It is here that I grew up and had my education. I know how women in villages suffer and how their potential is lost due to lack of resources. Every woman wants best for her child but unfortunately due to non-availability of resources she is unable to make those dreams come true for her children,” she said. “I want to help women wherever I can. I will definitely reach out to people and help in whatever way I can. This is an important day to highlight such issues and we will ensure that it is celebrated every year and message taken forward with the intention to benefit the target audience.”
PSAJK president G N Var while addressing the gathering said that on one hand the government is talking about so many schemes it has devised for the welfare of women but on the other hand those schemes are not implemented on the ground in letter and spirit, resulting in net-zero benefit to women. “United Nations declared this day as the international day of Rural Women, because they know the importance of women and their potential. According to several scientific studies if women get their fair share in managing rural economy especially farming, millions of lives could be saved each year who otherwise succumb due to scarcity of food. Women can do such jobs more efficiently than men and that too with empathy,” said Var. “The need of the hour is bringing awareness about women rights. And information about these rights should be ingrained in people right from topmost government officials to a common person.”
Var said that government should walk the talk when it comes to helping women. “On ground we fail to see the impact of women-centric schemes of government. It seems the government is not serious in their implementation. Our system has failed and the government should think out of box solution keeping in loop views of women representatives. A dedicated public policy intervention is need of the hour,” said Var. “We at PSAJK have been committed to bringing social change through quality education to every girl child. Wherever possible we provide extra care to girl students. We will be providing scholarship to deserving girl students, ensure better counselling and discuss the best possible options with their parents.”
