Ladhak Unity, a wakeup call for Kashmir mainstream

The unity of Ladhak leadership for achieving what the people of that region aspired for even as a Union Territory is surely a wakeup call for Kashmir’s mainstream parties including both proponents and opponents of much hyped Gupkar declaration. Like Kashmir’s divided mainstream the Ladhak leaders did not drift in different directions for pelf and power but without pulling legs of each other  they forged unity for restoration of the  basic citizenship rights of the people of their region which they used to enjoy as a part of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state before August 5 last year when Ladhak was declared a union territory and special status was withdrawn to it like another newly created union territory Jammu & Kashmir. Unfortunately there is no commonality in words and actions of mainstream leaders of Jammu & Kashmir even on the restoration of the basic citizenship rights which people of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state were enjoying before it’s downgrading to a union territory and withdrawal of special status to it on August 5 last year. In Kashmir every mainstream party comes out with it’s own agenda just to appease Delhi for pelf and power but not to protect the basic citizenshop  rights of the local populations . In Jammu & Kashmir one party dares another to get the statehood and special status restored and a combination of several parties dares the other party to get their own amendments incorporated in the domicile law but in the end people of Jammu & Kashmir only find themselves loosing the basic rights citizenship rights one after the other. If Ladhak can’t be allowed by it’s leadership to become a political laboratory for the party ruling at the centre, why  Jammu & Kashmir should be allowed to become a political laboratory for the party ruling at the centre by the regional mainstream parties.

The disrespect to the aspirations concerning basic citizenship rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir by the mainstream parties themselves has emboldened the political party at the centre to change Jammu & Kashmir into a laboratory of political experiments. Unless and until the mainstream parties don’t come together to work on a common agenda on the restoration of basic citizenship rights of the people , the non ending chaos, confusion and frustration of the people won’t head to any dead end in Jammu & Kashmir.

The onus for allowing the policy of political exploitations to breed ground in Jammu & Kashmir lies on both the mainstream leadership of Jammu & Kashmir and as well as the party ruling at the centre. While the mainstream parties drift in different directions only for pecuniary benefits, the party ruling at the centre is pursuing the politics of discriminations to deny the deny the people of Jammu & Kashmir even the basic citizenship rights which they used to enjoy for last more than seventy years. The people don’t want mainstream parties to pursue the agenda of words but they want them to  prove their words by their actions. Question can be asked that if the Ladhak leadership could prevail upon the central government and persuade it to take actions on it’s own terms and conditions, why the mainstream leadership of Jammu & Kashmir fails to bring the central government to it’s knees even over the basic citizenship rights which is the main cause for the unending chaos, confusion and frustration brewing up since last one year in Jammu & Kashmir.
