Jammu: Apni Party, Provincial President, and Former Minister Manjit Singh today appealed to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to formulate a regularization policy for the daily wagers and contractual workers.
In a statement to the press, Apni Party organised a meeting at the Party office at Gandhi Nagar and discussed various issues being faced by over 60000 daily wagers, ITI trained, CP workers and contractual workers who have been working in different Government departments.
“Many of daily wagers have been serving in departments from over 20 years and many, who have completed 25 years in services, are at the verge of retirement as daily wagers in their respective departments. However, they have not been regularized by the Government. The pending monthly wages have also not been cleared,” said Apni Party’s Jammu Provincial President, Manjit Singh. Singh chaired the meeting of the leaders including Abhay Bakaya, Ajaz Kazmi, Bodh Raj Bhagat, Vaibhav Mahajan, Gourav Kapoor, and others in which they discussed issues of the daily wagers and contractual employees in J&K.
During the meeting, Manjit Singh said that some of the daily wagers have also committed suicide in absence of any clear policy from the government about their regularization.
“It is unjustified exploitation of the daily rated workers and contractual employees without wages for a long time in different Government departments. Their dues must be cleared and the government must come up with a regularization policy for them,” demanded Manjit Singh.
The Apni Party Provincial President said that the families of these daily wagers and their children have been facing the burnt of the Government’s failure to frame any policy for their regularization.
“Government should not push the daily rated workers and contractual employees to the wall. They must get all benefits as an employee because they do more work and keep the system in PDD, PHE and other departments running. They have become the backbone of the departments despite that there is no clear vision of the government,” he said. The Former Minister said that the formation of committees to decide their future will not serve the purpose but the bureaucratic attitude will delay the issue and make the daily wagers suffer more. Already, he said, several daily wagers have ended their lives.
