Police arrests 5 drug peddlers in Awantipora , Srinagar

Srinagar: Police in a recent action against drug dealings in Awantipora and Srinagar have arrested five drug peddlers and recovered 107 kilograms of poppy straw, 6960 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon & Alprazolamn tablets and 238 bottles of Codeine phosphate from their possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established at Hariparigam Awantipora, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK13A-3999 with one person on board. He has been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Bhat resident of Naibugh Tral.
During search, officers were able to recover 77kgs of poppy straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station Awantipora where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, case FIR No. 107/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awanitpora and investigation has been initiated.
Similarly, in the jurisdiction of PS Pampore, officers intercepted an individual at a checkpoint established in village Gundbal Pampore. He has been identified as Abdul Hamid Ganie resident of Gundbal Pampore.
During search officers were able to recover 30 kgs of poppy straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station Pampore, where he remains in custody.
Case FIR No. 64/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pampore and investigation has been initiated.
Similarly in Srinagar, Officers from PS RM Bagh during patrolling at Maltaing Dalgate area intercepted a vehicle Scorpio bearing registration no. JK15/3375 with three persons on board. During checking, officers were able to recover 6960 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon & Alprazolamn tablets and 238 bottles of Codeine phosphate from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS RM Bagh where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case FIR No.92/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station RM Bagh and investigation has been taken up.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
