Srinagar/Aug 14:Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JK CSF) Abdul Qayoom Wani on Friday slammed Jammu and Kashmir Government for abolishing the reserved quota of construction projects for Self Help Groups in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that move to merge engineering wings of various government departments into only PWD and Jal Shakti Departments will create a mess in the engineering sector.
In a statement issued here on Friday Wani said that the decision to do away with the system in vogue to reserve a ratio of construction projects for unemployed engineerings under SHG was a well oriented and widely acceptable decision directed at providing job avenues to unemployed engineering graduates and it’s absence would deprive thousands of educated youth engaged in construction activities of their livelihood.
Quoting the statistics Wani said that there are around 3500 such self-help groups comprising about 20,000 engineering graduates, operating construction activities across J&K adding that doing away with the scheme would have disastrous consequences. He said it was most astonishing that instead of creating more employment avenues for educated unemployed youth, the government was shrinking existing limited job opportunities available to them under well-conceived SHG scheme.
Wani urged the government to revoke its decisions about merger of engineering departments and doing away will SHG scheme saying that these decisions were anti youth and would prove detrimental for the development works in Jammu and Kashmir , He if the decision is not immediately revoked, it would further complicate the employment problem In Jammu and Kashmir. Calling upon the Government to revoke these orders immediately Wani exuded confidence that affected youth won’t be forced to hit streets.
